Angus Community Mediation, the neighbour dispute resolution service, has chosen the winner of its 2008 “Good Neighbour” award for Angus.
Mr Neil McLeod of Glenogilvy was selected by the service’s Advisory Group from among several good neighbours put forward for the award, and was presented with a Christmas hamper supplied by Smithies Delicatessen of Arbroath.
Mrs Pam Farningham, who nominated Mr McLeod, describes Neil as “an extremely thoughtful, caring neighbour to all Glenners. Nothing is too much trouble for him. A catalyst in bringing everyone together”. He is multi-talented — willing to help everyone with anything”.
In addition to producing a regular and highly entertaining Gazette (Happenings in the Glen) which is sent regularly worldwide, Neil’s achievements include history group meetings in his home, a garage museum of local artefacts, GERTY (Glen Emergency Team) — gardening, repairs etc, hillwalks, barbecues, picnics, “growing” competitions, and neighbourhood watch.
Mediation service team leader Bob Ballantine commented:
“We are delighted to be able to present this prize to Neil. Not only is he a kind neighbour, he has also done much to encourage a great sense of community spirit in the Glen”.
He also added:
“This was not an easy decision to make, as we received many heart warming stories of good neighbourliness. We are writing to everyone nominated, congratulating them on their kindness”.
