Sacro Annual Conference 2009

Repairing the Harm
How restorative practices can benefit victims and communities while addressing the harm caused by offenders.

Date: Wednesday 18 March 2009
Venue: Our Dynamic Earth, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh.

This year, Sacro partnered with Victim Support Scotland for a conference on restorative practices. The conference focused on the many areas in which restorative practices can be applied to meet the needs of victims and address the harm caused by anti-social behaviour and offending.

Solicitor General, Frank Mulholland and Victim Support Scotland’s Director of Development, Susan Gallagher were joined on the day by Prof. Dr. Ivo Aertsen, of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology at University of Leuven, Belgium and Keith Simpson, Head of Development and Research at Sacro.

You can download Prof. Aertsen’s presentation here.

In addition to these key presentations, the conference held a series of dedicated ‘practice focus’ sessions. Each session concentrated on a specific application of restorative practice to show how this innovative approach to repairing harm can benefit our communities and address the needs of those harmed and affected by offending.
