CLAN Edinburgh is the city’s literacy and numeracy partnership project, funded by the Scottish Government and led by the City of Edinburgh Council. The partnership’s key objectives are to increase the number of people confident about using English and Maths in their everyday lives, increase choice for learners and improve the quality of literacy and numeracy learning opportunities in Edinburgh.
A CLAN Worker will be based at the Community Links Centre and will provide literacy and numeracy support to agencies and their service users. Service users with literacy needs will be supported on a one-to-one basis, or where possible some group work may be offered. There is no cost to service users or agencies. Short Awareness Raising Training sessions will be provided for agency staff who will be accessing this support.
Over 8,000 learners join CLAN groups each year. The majority are people from priority groups including: young people, unemployed adults, people with disabilities, people with English as a second language, those living in disadvantaged areas, those in low paid, low skill jobs, people with health issues, people with dyslexia and offenders.
