Sacro provides a range of Criminal Justice Services to help reduce offending.

Bail Services keep offenders from being remanded in custody and can demonstrate to the court at point of sentence, offenders’ ability to work constructively on their offending behaviour while in the community. This can lead to avoidance of the imposition of a custodial sentence.

Arrest Referral Services provide early intervention at the point of arrest for those whose offending is linked to drug or alcohol misuse.

Groupwork Programmes are provided to assist those on probation or licence address their offending. Sacro currently delivers structured programmes focussing on domestic abuse, sexual offending and alcohol education. It also offers support to partners, ex-partners and children of those attending the programmes. These programmes are highly regarded and link closely with local authority supervision plans as well as the “What Works” agenda.

Sacro’s Another Way Service offers intensive support and guidance to drug-using street sex workers. The service supports and encourages women to engage with drug treatment and care services, helping them break their cycle of drug dependency and offending. The Service received a “Scheme of Special Merit” award by the Howard League for Penal Reform in their Community Programmes Awards, 2007. With this award , the Howard League recognised the Service as one of the top three schemes in the UK.

The Howard League Community Programmes Awards also recognised Sacro’s Alcohol Education Service with a Scheme of Special Merit Award in 2006 and its Domestic Abuse Groupwork programme with an Outstanding Scheme Award in 2007.

Supported Accommodation is a key service in reducing reoffending. It helps people to move on to successful independent living, particularly following release from prison or secure hospital. It enhances social work supervision of offenders in the community by providing monitoring, supervision (intensive supervision in cases of high risk offenders) and support in a range of types of accommodation. These can include single tenancies, single housing association tenancies, shared tenancies, small semi-independent units and hostels. The range of accommodation and support provided varies based on local circumstances.

The Community Links Centre provides Throughcare services that work to improve prisoners’ chances of resettling effectively back into the community. Sacro helps to provide a smooth transition between prison and community by working to keep those in prison in touch with family, friends and other members of their community and offering support on their release. Working in partnership with the statutory and voluntary organisations that contribute to effective rehabilitiation, the service includes Travel Services, Family Support, Offender Support and Post-release Voluntary Assistance.
