Dundee Community Mediation, the neighbour dispute resolution service, has chosen the winner of its 2008 “Good Neighbour” award for Dundee.
Mrs Phyllis Patterson was selected by the service’s Advisory Group from among several good neighbours put forward for the award, and received a Christmas hamper supplied by Smithies Delicatessen of Arbroath.
Mrs Angela Dimitriu, who nominated Mrs Patterson, describes Phyllis as a “model neighbour” who looks after neighbours’ houses, pets and gardens in their absence. In addition, Phyllis has given Angela’s mother (91) particular care and attention for up two weeks at a time during holiday periods. If all that was not enough, Phyllis has developed a little garden on a nearby derelict site.
Mediation service team leader Bob Ballantine commented:
“We are delighted to be able to present this prize to Phyllis. As well as being an attentive and caring neighbour, she has taken steps on her own initiative to improve the environment of the area, for the benefit of everyone.”
He also added:
“This was not an easy decision to make, as we received many heart warming stories of good neighbourliness. We are writing to everyone nominated, congratulating them on their kindness.”
Dundee Community Mediation is managed by Sacro in partnership with Dundee City Council. The service offers mediation free at the point of delivery to all residents, irrespective of housing tenure.
