Dundee Community Mediation, the neighbour dispute resolution service, has chosen the winners of its “Good Neighbour 2009” award for Dundee. Nominations were received at an information stand run by the service at the Wellgate Centre during Scottish Mediation Week on 11 November.
Chris and Dawn Mands of Ambleside Terrace were selected by the service’s Advisory Group from among several good neighbours put forward for the award, and were presented with a Christmas hamper supplied by Smithies Delicatessen of Arbroath.
Neighbour Mrs Pat Dobson, who nominated the couple, has many examples of their good deeds, as she explained:
“Since my husband became severely disabled after a stroke in October 2008 this young couple have done many things for us. Grass cutting, bins in and out, replacing high light fittings and reaching a loft ladder. They also recommended a blacksmith and landscape gardener for works outside the house.”
Mediation service team leader Bob Ballantine added:
“We are delighted to be able to present this prize to Dawn and Chris. They are to be commended for all the help they have given their neighbours and have set an excellent example for us all.”
He also added:
“This was not an easy decision to make, as we have been made aware of quite a few examples of people going out of their way to help their neighbours in various ways. We are writing to everyone nominated, congratulating them on their kindness.”
The Christmas hamper was presented to Mrs Dawn Mands on Thursday 17 December at the offices of Dundee Community Mediation, Market Mews.
Dundee Community Mediation is managed by Sacro in partnership with Dundee City Council. The service offers mediation free at the point of delivery to all residents, irrespective of housing tenure.
