The Scottish Community Mediation Centre (SCMC) and the Scottish Community Mediation Network (SCMN) were officially launched jointly in Edinburgh today (24 June).
Previously known as the Community Mediation Consultancy and Training Service, the SCMC has a national and international reputation for high quality training and consultancy work in the field of Community Mediation and constructive conflict resolution. The Centre aims to promote Community Mediation throughout Scotland as an effective way of resolving conflicts within communities.
The Centre, which is managed by Sacro and funded by the Scottish Government, provides services to a wide range of national and local government agencies as well as other bodies such as charities, social housing providers, police and ombudsmen.
The Centre administers the Scottish Community Mediation Network and promotes best practice in community mediation through the SCMNs accreditation schemes. These schemes are unique in the UK and help to ensure that Scottish mediators have a worldwide reputation for being amongst the best trained and highly respected in their field.
The launch took place at the Scottish Mediation Network in Edinburgh. Speaking at the launch were: Ewan Malcolm, Director of the Scottish Mediation Network; Lynda Ross-Hale, Head of Operations, Sacro; Suzanne McLeod, Operations Manager at Glasgow Community Safety Services and Ian McDonough, Mediation Advisor at the Scottish Community Mediation Centre.
