StreetLegal

StreetLegal is a legal advice project funded by the Scottish Legal Aid Board and aimed at improving access to civil legal advice for those excluded from traditional services, including prisoners.

What does the service offer?

Direct legal advice and/or representation from a solicitor on most civil legal issues including homelessness, eviction, anti-social behaviour, contact with children and more.

How does the service work?

The solicitor can arrange to see clients at the Community Links Centre or at the Links Centre at HMP Edinburgh. If follow-on work is required after an initial meeting, the solicitor will apply on the client’s behalf for the necessary legal aid cover to see the case to a conclusion. In some cases, the solicitor will assist by referring the client to more specialist advice providers.

Who is the service aimed at?

Anyone who is eligible for legal aid, but priority is given to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

How is the service accessed?

By submission of a StreetLegal referral form or by arranging an appointment with the solicitor through the Community Links Centre or the Links Centre at HMP Edinburgh.
