Sacro Criminal Justice Services provide services to offenders, ex offenders and families in the Glasgow area. We are particularly keen to recruit male volunteers and volunteers with a wide range of life experiences. We are also keen to recruit a bank of female volunteers for community volunteering who could potentially be given an opportunity to become involved in a woman offenders mentoring project.
Criminal Justice work involves providing support and guidance in life-skills, budgeting, social skills, housing management and addressing offending behaviour. Community Support Volunteering will involve supporting individuals who may have a wide range of difficulties e.g. homelessness, addiction issues, a history of offending and challenging behaviour.
Criminal Justice Volunteers would also assist families, providing information, practical and emotional assistance.
Sacro travel service requires volunteer drivers to assist families in making visits to Scottish Prisons.
For all opportunities training will be given to enable volunteers to deliver a service within Sacro policy and procedures.
You need to be a good communicator – both written and oral, a good listener and it is important that you are able to respect issues of confidentiality.
The time commitment will vary depending on the type of volunteering you prefer. Full training will be given
Volunteering with Sacro’s Criminal Justice Services requires a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check. However, Sacro would welcome interest from ex-offenders. If you are interested in voluntary work with Sacro, please come along to our informal open event on Tuesday 26 July 2011 between 5:30pm and 7:30pm when you can discuss volunteering with our staff. The open night will be held at Quaker’s Meeting House, 38 Elmbank Cresent, Glasgow, G2 4PS
