The 2002 National Standards for Scotland’s Youth Justice Services require every local authority area to establish a multi-agency Youth Justice Strategy Group to develop a local approach to tackling youth offending in their area. The role of the Youth Justice Co-ordinator is to facilitate the development and effective implementation of the local Youth Justice Strategy.
The service aims to co-ordinate the development and implementation of the Youth Justice Strategy across all members of the Youth Justice Partnership. Regular audits are undertaken to inform strategic planning for the development and delivery of effective interventions. Monitoring and evaluation ensures best value delivery of services and continuous improvement in meeting National Standards. The Youth Justice Co-ordinator also supports effective joint working between partners and the development and implementation of the local Youth Justice Communication Strategy.
The Youth Justice Co-ordinator works closely with each of the partner agencies through a Youth Justice Strategy Group (strategic planning), Operational Team (service managers) and Practitioners’ Forum. The post holder co-ordinates the commissioning of new services, informed through a regular audit process, and undertakes monitoring and evaluation against agreed performance criteria. They may also manage a Youth Justice Information and Communications Officer responsible for the implementation of the local Youth Justice Communication Strategy.
The service is aimed at those involved in the planning, management and delivery of Youth Justice Services. It is also aimed at young people who receive such services, their families and all members within local communities.
The service is accessed through the local Youth Justice Partnership.
