The Young Person Inclusion Project for Dumfries and Annan is a Sacro managed service operating in conjunction with partner agencies and local community groups. This project is funded for a 15 month period following the award by the Scottish Government of a European Social Fund supported Aspiring Communities Fund (ACF) grant.

The Aspiring Communities Fund enables community bodies and third sector organisations (such as Sacro) to work together in our most deprived and fragile communities to develop and deliver long-term local solutions. These solutions will focus on actively working with local people and groups to change deep-seated, multi-generational deprivation, poverty and inequalities. The aim of the Dumfries and Annan project is to tackle poverty and reduce inequalities for some of our most vulnerable and hard to reach young people and to encourage their inclusion through identifying future supports and resources.

Sacro is the voluntary sector leader in promoting community justice across Scotland. Founded in 1971, Sacro provides high quality services and plays a key role in influencing government policy and legislation.

We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals to supervise and manage the staff team and operations within our Young People Inclusion Project. The Project will provide a service in the towns of Dumfries and Annan and will be targeted at vulnerable, isolated and disengaged young people aged 16 to 25. These young people’s support needs will vary enormously but examples will include: antisocial behaviour, offending; budgeting, exploring housing options, health issues, social skills, and accessing education/ employment.

Responsible to the Service Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations ensuring that a high quality service is provided. Knowledge and experience of the justice system and working with vulnerable and disengaged young people are essential. Duties include line management of service staff, selection and recruitment of staff and volunteers, payroll duties and responsibility for managing a caseload.

You will be a creative self-starter with excellent organisational and communications skills. The ability to use initiative and organise workload within a pressurised environment is essential. The successful applicant will be flexible and imaginative in their approach and sensitive and confident in their ability to help service users and staff steer their way through difficult situations.

Evidence of supervision and management teams is required and experience of working with vulnerable young people is desirable.
