Sacro’s mission is to promote safe and cohesive communities by reducing conflict and offending

Veteran’s Mentoring Service

Sacro’s Veteran’s Mentoring Service (VMS) is based across various locations in Scotland. The service aims to support men and women who have completed service with the Armed Forces and are at risk of becoming involved, or are already involved in the criminal justice system.

We currently have 2 exciting support worker opportunities to join our team.

The post holders will provide monitoring, supervision and support to service users, who are military service veterans on the periphery of, or within the criminal justice system working towards independent living within Sacro’s Veterans’ Mentoring service.

Support needs vary enormously but examples include: addressing offending behaviour, assistance to access mental health services, budgeting, cooking, shopping, exploring housing options, compliance with statutory orders, social skills, and accessing education/employment.

You should be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to work both as part of a team and independently is required, lived experience of the military and experience of inter-agency working is essential. A commitment to Sacro’s value base is crucial, as this type of work can be challenging.

Experience of working with offenders is essential.

You may have supervisory responsibility for volunteers and student placements.

A relevant qualification is desirable but is not essential.

Work patterns will vary and will include days, evenings and weekends.

You must be prepared to work within equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory standards and adhere to Sacro’s policies and procedures.

If you would like an informal chat about the requirements of the roles, please contact Scott Muir at smuir@sacro.org.uk.

A valid driving licence and access to a car is essential for these posts.

Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) will be a requirement for this post.

Sacro values diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community
