The Young Person Inclusion Project for Dumfries and Annan is a Sacro managed service operating in conjunction with partner agencies and local community groups. This project is funded for a 15 month period following the award by the Scottish Government of a European Social Fund supported Aspiring Communities Fund (ACF) grant.

The Aspiring Communities Fund enables community bodies and third sector organisations (such as Sacro) to work together in our most deprived and fragile communities to develop and deliver long-term local solutions. These solutions will focus on actively working with local people and groups to change deep-seated, multi-generational deprivation, poverty and inequalities. The aim of the Dumfries and Annan project is to tackle poverty and reduce inequalities for some of our most vulnerable and hard to reach young people and to encourage their inclusion through identifying future supports and resources.

A Young People Inclusion Worker is required for Dumfries to support the provision of a Young People Inclusion Project to identified vulnerable young people aged 16 to 25 years who reside in Dumfries and Annan. The Young People Inclusion Project will be referral based (including self-referral) and targeted at some of the most disadvantaged, vulnerable, isolated and disengaged young people.

These young people’s support needs will vary enormously but examples will include: antisocial behaviour, offending; budgeting, exploring housing options, health issues, social skills, and accessing education/ employment. Experience of working with vulnerable young people is essential.

The ability to use initiative and organise workload within a pressurised environment is essential. Successful applicants will be flexible and imaginative in their approach and sensitive and confident in their ability to help service users.

Multi-Agency working is crucial as Sacro work in partnership with a variety of partners, including the statutory and voluntary sector, to provide a range of support and guidance to these vulnerable and often isolated and marginalised young people.

You should be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day support and supervision of sessional support worker staff.

A relevant qualification at a minimum standard SVQ Level 3 in Social Care or equivalent is essential.

For an informal discussion regarding this position please contact Sandra Lindsay, National Support Manager on 01698 337208.

Applicants must have a full driving license and access to a car satisfying the appropriate insurance requirements.

Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) will be a requirement for this post.
