Sacro's Garden Project offers individuals aged 18+ who face barriers to employment and social inclusion the opportunity to learn and develop new skills. The project allows participants to increase self-confidence and improve mental and physical health whilst improving amenities within the community. In partnership with Glasgow City Council, Land Environment Services and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Sacro are delivering the Garden Project in Govanhill Park and Tollcross Park.

Following today’s announcement in the Scottish Parliament by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon MSP on the extension of the presumption against short sentences, Sacro’s Chief Executive, Tom Halpin released the following statement:

“Short prison sentences are known to be ineffective in reducing reoffending. Similarly, alternatives like effective bail supervision can reduce the need to remand people to prison unnecessarily.

Scotland’s new approach to community justice.

A bold new strategy seeking to break the cycle of offending by strengthening community justice has been announced by Justice Secretary Michael Matheson.

Tackling offending through early intervention, identifying the reasons why people offend in the first place, and helping people reintegrate into the community after custody, is at the heart of the new approach.
