Sacro Edinburgh services held an open day on 19 February to showcase its volunteering opportunities.

Aimed at recruiting volunteers for its services, the event attracted over 50 people on the day and included representation from all Sacro services in the area. Sacro staff and volunteers were on hand all day to promote the rewards and benefits of volunteering and advise on available opportunities. They also helped potential volunteers to complete applications on the day.

Edinburgh volunteers with Sacro Chief Executive, Tom Halpin

Volunteers Week (1-7 June) is a great opportunity to celebrate some of the outstanding work contributed by our volunteers. To kick the week off, Sacro staff in Edinburgh hosted an afternoon tea party for some of our volunteers.

Sacro’s successful renewal of the Investing in Volunteers standard was marked on 10 March with the presentation of a plaque and certificate at National Office. Anne Hislop, Investing in Volunteers Manager at Volunteer Scotland made the presentation to Sacro’s Tom Halpin (Chief Executive), Elizabeth Carmichael (Depute Chair), volunteers Kathryn Hilditch and Zenon Bankowski and Gareth Jenkins (Volunteer Co-ordinator).

Gus Napier of Sacro's Edinburgh Travel Service

Sacro's Travel Service aims to provide a regular transport service to many of Scotland’s prisons and the State Hospital at Carstairs. The service enables prisoners to maintain important contact with their families and friends. This contact helps to sustain family relationships and facilitate the prisoners’ re-integration to the community on release.
