The Sacro Lecture 2019: David Wilson

18th November 2019 - 6:30pm

The Signet Library, Parliament Square, Edinburgh EH1 1RF

The Sacro Lecture 2019 will be delivered by Professor Emeritus David Wilson.

Prof. Wilson will be exploring the popularity of “Tartan Noir” crime fiction as a genre and its favourite tropes and characters.

  • Why is it so popular when we know it’s not real?
  • Does this popularity matter?
  • Do people come to understand fact through fiction?

In this fascinating lecture, Prof David Wilson asks how we can have a grown-up debate about the many aspects of crime, intolerance and inequality facing Scotland’s communities today.

David Wilson is Emeritus Professor of Criminology at Birmingham City University (BCU), where he was the founding Director of The Centre for Applied Criminology – one of BCU’s centres of research excellence.

A noted broadcaster, his 2018 Channel 4 documentary Interview with a Murderer won the Broadcast and Royal Television Society Awards for “best documentary”, and in 2019 he presented BBC Scotland’s Crime Files.

The Sacro Lecture begins at 6:30pm and is followed by a reception at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6pm. Please ensure you are arrive in good time. The event is free and open to the public.
