Sacro’s Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire Community Mediation, the neighbour dispute resolution service, has chosen the winners of its “Good Neighbour” award for 2014. Nominations were received during the lead up to the festive season.

Mrs Sheena Anderson of Baillieswell Drive, Aberdeen and Mrs Betty Cosgrove of Gladstone Road, Huntly were selected from among several good neighbours put forward for the award, and received a meal for two supplied by the Brentwood Hotel Crown Street Aberdeen.

Jane Smith who nominated Mrs Anderson, has many examples of her good deeds, as she explained: "Mrs Anderson is always very obliging and friendly. She is generous with home grown fruit and lovely pies - just everything you would wish for a in a neighbour.”

Mediation service team leader Irene Reid added: “We are delighted to be able to present this prize to Mrs Anderson and Mrs Cosgrove. They are to be commended for all the help they have given their neighbours and have set an excellent example for us all. This was never going to be an easy decision to make, as we're always aware that most people make excellent neighbours who go out of their way to help others in various ways. We would like to say a hearty “well done” to all nominees and encourage them to continue to enjoy their neighbourhoods to the full.”

The prize was presented to Mrs Anderson, our Aberdeen winner, on 14 January at the Brentwood Hotel Crown Street Aberdeen. The prize was presented by Matthew Carle, Community Safety Development Officer with Aberdeen City Council. Mrs Cosgrove was unable to attend.

Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire Community Mediation is managed by Sacro in partnership with Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council. Mr Norman Landels, Service Development Officer with Aberdeenshire Council, had this to say: "Sacro work with landlords and people to support communities across this area. We often hear much about the problems of Anti-social Behaviour and Neighbour disputes but the vast majority of people in Aberdeenshire get on well with their neighbours and live in harmony and cooperation, so it is right that Sacro should recognise the positive aspects and well being in our neighbourhoods. The award winners were people only too glad to help and they did so in a friendly neighbourly way and this made other people happy. The Award winners were made to people who have made a real difference to people’s lives and who helped people living within the neighbourhood. These are the people who build our communities."

The service offers mediation free at the point of delivery to all residents, irrespective of housing tenure. For further information about the award, please contact Irene Reid on 01224 560572, e-mail: ireid@sacro.org.uk
