The Another Way team at the Care Accolades ceremony

On 10 June 2014 Sacro’s ‘Another Way’ service was awarded a Care Accolade in the category of ‘innovation and redesign’ by the Scottish Social Service Council. Brittany Stewart, volunteer mentor and Jane, service user, had the opportunity to be involved in the experience.

Following the announcement that the ‘Another Way’ service had been short listed for a Care Accolade, Brittany and Jane were invited to Dundee to present to the SSSC judging panel on behalf of the service. Both were pleased to be selected to share their experiences with the SSSC judges and discuss the progress they had made so far. “I was happy to be involved in the presentation. It was a new experience for me and I wanted give back to the service as they have done so much”, Jane explained.

Brittany commented, “Although excited, I was fairly nervous. As we travelled to Dundee, Jane put me at ease; she was supportive and confident”.

Despite the nerves, the experience proved to be worthwhile as Brittany and Jane’s contributions to the judging process ultimately helped the ‘Another Way’ service to take home the prestigious award.

“I was really happy for the ‘Another Way’ service to win” Jane said. “They have done so much for me. I was amazed that this service even existed as I have never been offered help anywhere else. All the service workers are really supportive; I feel I can be myself”.

The ceremony was a positive and enjoyable experience for both Jane and Brittany who appreciated the support they received throughout the event. “While waiting for the train, we saw a guy who came up to congratulate us. We felt that this was a really nice gesture – he didn’t have to do that”, Jane said.

Brittany and Jane were delighted to attend the ceremony and be a part of the ‘Another Way’ service’s well deserved success.
