Bright Choices and 16 Days of Activism on Gender Based Violence
Bright Choices, a partnership between Sacro, the Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Equality Council (ELREC) and the Multicultural Family Base (MCFB) is pleased to announce its lead role in supporting this year’s UN Women Campaign: ’16 Days of Activism on Gender Based Violence’.
The campaign runs internationally between 25 November and 10 December. This year, Bright Choices has formed a partnership in Edinburgh with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), Edinburgh Napier University and the University of St. Andrews to organise, co-ordinate and co-deliver 16 days full of activities and events for professionals and the public across the city of Edinburgh. Events are supported and co-ordinated by a number of Bright Choices partner organisations in the statutory and third sectors, including the Edinburgh Violence Against Women Partnership, the Edinburgh Child Protection Committee, the NHS, Police Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council.
This year, an unprecedented effort has been made to unite the city in becoming more actively involved in eradicating gender based violence and discrimination. 16 Days full of events, activities, talks, seminars, exhibitions and conferences will be held across the capital. Download the programme of Edinburgh events here and keep an eye on the campaign's Eventbrite profile.
The campaign launch event held is being held on Saturday 25 November at the Edinburgh Sheriff Court. The event will focus on domestic abuse and will feature inspirational speakers such as Ruth McQuaid (Equality Lead, COPFS), Gordon McCreadie (National Lead for Domestic Abuse, Police Scotland), Linda Rodgers (Edinburgh Violence Against Women Partnership) and survivors of domestic abuse and gender based violence. Attendees will also have the opportunity to discuss and contribute to shaping the new Violence Against Women Action Plan 2018-2023. You can register for this event here.
