International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation

To mark this year’s International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on 6 February, the City of Edinburgh Child Protection Committee and Bright Choices are organising an event in partnership. This event is aimed at frontline professionals across Health, the Police, Education, Social Services and the Third Sector whose work brings them in direct contact with women who have survived FGM and girls and young women at risk of the practice. The event will take place on Monday 6 February at the Edinburgh Methodist Church, 25 Nicolson Square, between 9:00 and 13:30 and will include speakers who specialise in the area of work against FGM. The event will close with the launch of the new local guidelines for FGM for Edinburgh and Lothian.

Bright Choices is a partnership between Sacro, the Edinburgh and Lothian Regional Equality Council (ELREC) and the Multicultural Family Base (MCFB). The service supports individuals, families and communities affected by Honour Abuse through a range of services, including one-to-one and group practical and emotional support, mediation, outreach, awareness raising, advocacy and training for professionals.
