Problems Next Door?

A typical mediation meeting

We all want to be able to enjoy our own home, though sometimes, it’s not easy. There are so many things these days that can cause problems between neighbours – noise, pets, children, parking, fences – it’s no wonder sometimes things just get out of hand. Every so often, what starts off as a minor disagreement ends up as a full-blown dispute, causing everyone stress and worry.

If you are having problems with neighbours, Community Mediation can often help. Community Mediation is a widely used process for resolving neighbourhood disputes. In Scotland alone, thousands of neighbour disputes have been handled by mediators, most involving two sets of neighbours, but some involving whole neighbourhoods of 50 to 100 or more households.

With almost nine out of ten mediation meetings ending in agreement, mediation can often help resolve situations where other methods have failed.

Visit the Scottish Community Mediation Centre website to find out the nearest service to where you live. The service is free and confidential and available in many parts of Scotland.

If you want to find out more about this valuable service, Sacro have produced a video - available on our YouTube channel - showing what mediators do and how Community Mediation can help people in conflict.
