Sacro’s Aberdeen Restorative Justice Service has scooped the Runner Up award in the Restorative Justice category at the Howard League Community Programmes Award ceremony held in London.

The service succeeded in light of strong competition from the other eight shortlisted services in this category and once again, Sacro was the only Scottish service shortlisted across all categories. The award was presented to local service manager Tracy Mackie and service team leader Claire Paterson by HRH The Princess Royal.

The service uses restorative principles to address offending behaviour in a way which empowers the people harmed, those responsible and the wider community to resolve the issues in a constructive way. Nearly three quarters of all persons harmed approached agreed to participate in the service with 85% of those responsible for offences successfully completing the agreed work.

Paolo Mazzoncini, Sacro’s Director of Operations (East) said “this is a fantastic achievement for the service and clearly highlights the benefits of restorative justice for those involved in and affected by crime”.
