Sacro's Veterans Mentoring Service (VMS) team attended the 1st Annual Veterans First Point (V1P) (Scotland) Conference to celebrate the launch of V1P’s services across Scotland on Wednesday 23 March 2016 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

V1P is based on the expressed need to have more co-ordinated, credible and accessible services for ex-service personnel and is the first co-ordinated, national, multi-centre mental health and well-being service of this nature in the United Kingdom. VMS are seen to be a key partner within the service and were duly invited along to the event to hear from key speakers such as:

  • Keith Brown, MSP, Minister for Transport and Veterans
  • Simon Weston, CBE, Falklands War Veteran, author, public speaker & charity supporter
  • Professor Neil Greenberg, Department of Psychological Medicine at King's College London.

During the event, the VMS team took the chance to speak to Simon Weston CBE to discuss his involment with veterans within the criminal justice system due to his work south of the border with Care After Combat who work within the prison service. Simon took great interest in the work being done by Sacro and a meeting between the two services will be set up in due course to discuss matters.
