MSPs have passed the Victims and Witnesses Bill in the Scottish Parliament today (12/12/2013)

Commenting on the Bill, Sacro Chief Executive, Tom Halpin said:

"Restorative Justice (RJ) is widely regarded as a powerful process in repairing the harm caused to victims of crime. The recognition of RJ within the Victims and Witnesses Bill is a welcome step and Sacro is supportive of any move to make the provision of RJ more widely available.

"The availability of proper guidance for participants and safeguards for victims are important elements in making Restorative Justice an effective process that benefits all those involved. Sacro and its partners working with restorative practices look forward to contributing to the discussion on providing guidance and ensuring victims of crime are safeguarded within the justice system."
