Pride Month often prompts the question, "Why do we need a Pride Month?"
The answer is simple: visibility matters.
For many people from marginalised communities, whether because of their sexuality, gender identity, race, disability, faith, or other aspects of who they are; being seen, heard and respected has not always been a given.
Dedicated awareness months are not about placing one group above another; they are opportunities to recognise histories that have often been overlooked. They're a way of celebrating that progress has been made, and acknowledging the challenges that still exist.
When people can see themselves reflected in their communities, workplaces and society, it helps foster belonging, understanding and connection. Visibility can challenge stereotypes, reduce isolation and encourage meaningful conversations.
A truly inclusive society is one where everyone feels able to be themselves and where diversity is recognised as a strength, not a difference to be hidden.
This Pride Month, and throughout the year, let's continue to create spaces where everyone can be seen, heard and valued.
